LAND OF OPPORTUNITY --- AND PITFALLS
Yes, there is opportunity here. And so too are there risks. You need to be careful. You need to plan carefully and cross-check the reality. If you worry about every risk, you will do nothing, but if you miss the big risks, you could be left with nothing. Take your time, study, compare, contrast, and move deliberately. Succeed.
BUILD WITH GLOBAL LEVERAGE
You have a unique advantage I have seen in my expatriate clients: You know what is going on in the world. Whether your current countries of nationality and citizenship are the same, you have lived and traveled in many different places. You have a more sophisticated understanding of economics, codes, regulations and practices than most people. Whatever your business background, you have seen business and businesses in many places. You have ideas. You know what works-- and what does not-- in a lot of different places.
Once here, do not forget your original and temporary homes. Home ideas can provide innovation and solutions for your new home here. You bring with you a natural network of your own countrymen and fellow travelers. That network can be closer here than your new neighbors. Your fellow expatriates may draw closer in the newness of this new land. I can help you use the advantages.

DEALING WITH USCIS REQUIREMENTS
As if planning and building were not enough, you have now to deal with the USCIS requirements. Constantly. And you are never done with the rules. Not until you are a USC, if ever. You have to get the people and the numbers and the timing just right. How do you cope with the requirements when your business and the world change each day? How do you build a plan and a business which satisfy you and the USCIS. Year after year. You have to plan be here. What is your model? What do you need? Does it work with what the USCIS requires? And how?

Changes in the business world change your business. Changes in technology, changes in your industry, changes in your new region, changes in world economics, changes down to the level of yournew city and street, change your business. Fads change it all fast. The changes hit quickly. The changes suddenly change how and whether you meet the USCIS requirements. You may no longer satisfy the requirements. What do you do then? Will you have to leave? A business crisis may hit hard in a business run by citizens in their own country. As you know well, a business crisis creates other personal crises when it hits a business which is run by expatriates. You have visa requirements. You may suddenly no longer have the right to live in the country where you have run your business. You may be transferred back abroad overnight. You may have to leave a property behind, from homes to vehicles to investments. What then? And sometimes, changes at home in your country of citizenship can even leave you stranded abroad, unable to return home to danger. What then? What next?

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT BUSINESS HERE? (What Is Business Like There?)
It looks so nice. People are so friendly. It seems so easy. But watch yourself.....You may settle onto a ride which looks simple and safe but find yourself pulled by wild horses. Business and people may seem just like home.
Or perhaps better. Perhaps they seem safer, transparent, open to all.
But business and people here are definitely different from home. The greatest danger is that they are different in ways you do not know. Here you may accept too much on faith and may assume too much.
You go forward with plans as if you were home. You react to people and events as if you were home. And you are not home. There are opportunities here which you do not see. There are risks here which you do not understand. There are real dangers.

So many things are different here. Employment rules are different for you and your staff. Goods and services are different. Expectations are different. The business culture is different. Government processes are different. Even the English is different. (How often has an American or Brit here told me how well they understand their counterparts over there--only to find in a dust up that they did not quite understand the subtle variations of English language all that well after all----- And how are your idioms?)
Opportunities, risks and business are indeed different here. And it all lays traps for the unwary. Unintentionally. Or intentionally. You need a sounding board, a guide, a reality check. You need me to translate the business rules, practices, and philosophy. And keep you on track.
